INTERNAL AUDIT CONTRACTOR (MULTIPLE CLIENTS - NON-PROFIT, HIGHER EDUCATION, PUBLIC SECTOR | $60-$65 PER HOUR (W2) | LARGE PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRM | REMOTE & LIGHT TRAVEL NORTHEAST

Client: Large Public Accounting Firm

Location: *REMOTE *Most clients are located in the North East US

Position: Internal Audit Contractor (Risk Advisory)

Duration: 6+Months

Pay: $60-65 per hour (W2)

Travel: Yes Light travel (10% or less)

Join a large public accounting firm’s Risk, Compliance & Controls Practice, supporting not-for-profit and higher education clients in managing operational and compliance risks. You'll work alongside a nationally respected team, contributing to client missions while growing your own career.

Preferred Background:
Experience in not-for-profit or higher education, especially in:

Grants management
Fundraising and development
Student services and enrollment
Financial aid and compliance
Academic operations

Key Responsibilities:

Assess financial, operational, and administrative processes for risk and control effectiveness.
Gain a deep understanding of client operations, systems, and control environments.
Lead or support engagements including internal audit, ERM, compliance testing, and control design.
Manage planning, budgeting, reporting, and supervise junior staff.
Develop risk-based audit workplans and provide actionable insights.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, IT, MIS, Business Intelligence, or related field
2+ years in professional services, risk, or internal audit
Industry exp (Non Profit, Higher Ed or Public Sector)
CIA, CPA, Six Sigma, or SOX 404 experience preferred
Familiarity with COSO, IIA IPPF, and external audit standards
Proficiency in Microsoft Visio and Office Suite
Strong communication, analytical, and project management skills
